What does an eye examination involve?

Regular eye examinations are important for everyone whether you are having problems with your vision or not.
The examination will ensure you enjoy the highest possible standard of clear and comfortable vision. It will also include photography of the back of the eye, the retina.
In addition the examination can often reveal problems with the health of your eyes and even your general health.

Examples of conditions that can affect your eyes and vision
Cataract
This is a condition that affects many elderly people. With age, the natural, clear lens inside the eye becomes cloudy, causing the vision to become blurred and foggy. Cataracts can also cause changes in the strength of the spectacles required.
We will ensure that you have the best vision possible despite the presence of cataracts.
If cataract surgery is warranted we can refer you to a hospital of your choice.
Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
This is also an age related condition which affects the central vision.
There are two types; wet AMD and dry AMD.
The wet type can be treated if detected early enough. Our eye examinations can detect early changes to the macula and advise can be given accordingly
Glaucoma
This is caused by an increase in pressure of the fluid inside the eye. If undetected, it can cause severe loss of your peripheral vision and ultimately blindness.
We will check the pressure of the fluid in your eyes and check your peripheral vision (visual field test)
These are just some of the conditions that affect the eyes directly. In addition the eye examination can reveal problems with your general health, for example diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure.
